This week was tough. I had a tragedy in the family back home and we didnt do what we set out to do which was a huge downer. We met with this man and i feel bad to say it but i nearly threw up in his house. His looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. He had dogs and the house reeked from pee and just from the lack of hygiene. The owner also this week finally changed his shirt after 3 months. He didnt take a shower but he just changed his shirt. The family was really nice but they just had a hygiene issue and they couldnt do anything about it because they were physically handicapped.
Anyway, We had to go over pretty often because they needed our help cleaning their house (of course haha). and over the next few times, we kinda started seeing the other side of it. Yes, the house was still radiating death but we tried to focus on the positives that we were doing something worthwhile!
I was reading a talk by Dieter F Uchdorf and he was mentioning that we are in charge of our own happiness. He goes on to note that sometimes we are so focused on the finish line and we fail to find joy in the journey. I think this can be applied to most things. I was helping this guy and i was so focused at getting out of his place that i failed to notice his appreciation and love for us that we were helping him because he simply wasnt able to do it himself.
He mentioned that no matter our circumstances, there is something in each day to embrace and cherish. There is something in each day that can bring joy if only we will see and appreciate it. Perhaps we should be looking less with our eyes and more with our hearts.
There’s a quote from The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that “One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.”
Life can throw you endless curveballs and its easier said than done but as long as you resolve to be happy and remind yourself of all the blessings you’ve received as well as resolving to spend more time with the people you love. The light at the end of the tunnel comes.
Have a wonderful week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
